![]() If you thought they were done with the 80’s themes in Simulation Theory, then think again! Although for the first time in a very long while this is a Muse pop song that actually isn’t cringe-worthy. However, once some funky bass and a slick drumbeat are introduced, courtesy of Chris Wolstenholme and Dom Howard respectively, it really comes together seamlessly. The track is much more coherent in structure than the previous offering, and is one heck of an earworm to boot! It’s initially a bit of a red herring, the Van Halen style retro synths alongside Matt Bellamy’s electronically distorted vocals being enough to ensure a groan of disgust, as listeners prepare for Muse to go off the rails again. ![]() ![]() In a complete subversion of expectations, it turns out “Compliance” is a pop song… and I adore it. ![]()
